Last week, someone special flew in from the fashion hub of Canada, Montreal to help our little VOWS family provide a better way for Malaysians to shop. She's Olivia, and she's going to help out in the production department :)
My associate and I wanted to welcome our maple-loving intern by inviting her out to one of Malaysia's finest restaurants, Nobu. We enjoyed a seven-course meal specially prepared by the chef while discussing VOWS with the breath-taking Twin Towers as our view.
Although the view and decadent seven-course meal were hard to beat, by far the most fun part of the night was putting together this 50's inspired dinner outfit. All I needed was my little black dress which, let's face it - we all have somewhere in our messy closets, along with a vintage top I found at a thrift store in Penang and my go-to Mossimo heels.
Honestly speaking, this may not look like your typical dinner outfit, but that's exactly why I love it. The dress I was wearing is from Sears in California and is pretty casual. I tried to pair it with the shirt, but it still looked pretty casual when unbuttoned, so I just tie it up - and voila! Mixing and matching different items in your wardrobe is one of the easiest way to stay fresh. I do wish I was wearing a much darker heels (but these ones are soooo comfortable!).
I also love what Olivia's wearing - so we sneak a quick bathroom selfie together!
So girls, why spend a fortune buying new formal outfits for special events, when all you really need is a little creativity and some thrifty pieces! Take my shirt for example. I love to pair it with jeans and funky sunglasses and I've got myself a vintage outfit to hit the streets of KL with.
And I'm not alone on this one girls. Look how easy it was for this gal to find a thrifty dress to replicate the classy outfit celeb Julianne Hough is rocking. With a cute pair of flats and the biggest sunhat you can get your hands on, you're ready for a lunch and punch with your girls. Or ditch the flats and hat to elevate this cute dress with a pair of sleek stilettos and diamond clutch and join me for my next business dinner!
I definitely know I'm not the only one out there who transforms their vintage clothes from casual to classy! Share your thrifty tips below on how to turn a casual day to day outfit to a fabulous outfit fit for a business dinner.
As they say in Montreal, à bientôt les filles!
