How I Stay Thrifty
I hope the new year has been kind to all of you as it has been to me. 2017 has been going great - I get to talk more with some of you to understand how VOWS could be improved. This new year, I'd like to share more with you from this blog.
This one's about my own personal style.
I've gone a long way since my t-shirt and jeans college days, and now I'm obessed with comfortable and cute dresses whether it's for work or dinner - which explains why we have more dresses than any other collection on VOWS :) Dresses are one of the easiest ways to stay stylish without having to think too much when building your look.
Some people I know wouldn't believe that most of the items I own are either used or bought from discount shops - especially those who follows me on Instagram (@syakirinrosik). So in this post I'd like to break down the prices of my #OOTN that I wore to Lafite, Shang-Ri La KL for a dinner meeting.
I love to accessorise simple dresses. The ring I was wearing cost me RM14.00 for a set of 5 and the big, bulky earring was only RM10! I bought them when I was in Istanbul in Christmas from a brand named "Kacoon" near Taksim Square. I absolutely love the brand! It's so affordable, plus they sell high quality items with great design. Unfortunately, because it's all brand new (which is good news for most people), I didn't buy any of their clothes. As a personal principle, I try to minimise buying things brand new to avoid adding waste to our landfill.
When you mention second-hand clothing to most people, they will think of ugly clothes that smells and that are dirty. I'm here to tell you that it doesn't have to be like that. Granted, most thrift stores are not the fanciest place you can visit, but if you can get pass that, I promise you, you will LOVE IT!
Here's my complete #OOTN fine dining look for less than RM100!
The 41 Hawthorn dress ($6) and Mossimo heels ($4) are from Plato's Closet in San Jose, California. I'm probably Plato's Closet biggest fan! They have amazing clothes for less than $15! I love visiting and buying from shops and businesses that share the same vision as VOWS.
To me, a good sense of style is more important than the price tag you pay. Quality is also very important, and although it almost always comes with a hefty price tag, you can always source out good quality items with good design for a fraction of its retail price. If not from online platforms like VOWS, possibly in traditional discount shops or thrift stores.
I've decided long ago that saving the environment through my fashion choices should be fun and plus, it saves me a lot on shopping! (Psst...it even improves my style because I can try new things without regretting the expensive price I've paid for my clothes!)
Hope you enjoyed this post!
I'll share more thrifty tips in my next posts. For now, adios!
